Why was Simply Organic created?

Belinda and Christine, two busy working mothers, were frustrated by the lack of convenient organic food on the market. Brought together by their passion for food, they set out to devise a food range for people just like themselves; busy people, looking for organic, hassle-free food for themselves and their families.

What products did Simply Organic launch with?

The company launched with fresh organic soups and pasta sauces - the first to be available in the UK.

When did Simply Organic launch its ready meals?

The Simply Organic range was extended in 2003 to include ready meals.

When did Simply Organic launch its Meals with Meat?

The Simply Organic Meals with Meat were launched in 2007.

Why is Simply Organic no longer a vegetarian brand?

In 1998, when Simply Organic was launched, organic meat in particular wasn’t nearly as widely available as it is now and the founders faced obstacles in finding ingredients that we felt were up to their standards. As a result, initially all the products were vegetarian. Since organic meat has become more widely available recently Simply Organic has added its Meals with Meat to the range.

How healthy are the Simply Organic products?

Simply Organic prides itself on only using products that would be available in a well-stocked kitchen – any modified starch, fillers, non-food ingredients or additives, regardless of whether or not they are officially organic, are avoided.

All the products in the range are organic and packed full of vegetables to help with reaching the all important Five-A-Day. Most are also low in fat and salt, and many are also naturally dairy-free and wheat-free.

How many calories are there in the Simply Organic products?

Because Simply Organic products are simple soups and meals, packed with vegetables and pulses, they tend to be low in calories but very filling and sustaining at the same time. (Their low-GI ingredients mean that they keep you feeling full for a long time.)

A good 300g portion of Simply Organic soup has only between 97 and 195 calories, a very substantial 400g portion of a Simply Organic Pure & Pronto Veggie Ready Meal has between 188 and 320 calories, and a sizeable 400g portion of a Simply Organic Ready Meal with Meat has between 324 and 600 calories. (See individual product information on the website for further details of all products).

What is the salt content of the products?

We make every effort to keep the salt content low in all Simply Organic products.

In a survey of salt levels in 576 soups carried out by Consensus Action on Salt and Health (CASH) published in April 2007, Simply Organic was found to be the overall lowest average soup brand, with an average salt content of just 0.24g per 100g, 3-4 times less than the highest.
